The Article 4 area east of the A22
A mapped direction can limit what you change on a roof, so ask whether your address falls inside it before you plan a new look.
Planning.data.gov.uk lists an Article 4 direction area at South Nutfield, named Land East Of A22 And South Of Redhill Tonbridge Railway. Tandridge District Council can confirm whether your road also falls in a conservation area. Under GOV.UK's description, a direction lets either the Secretary of State or the council's planning authority strip chosen permitted development rights from a defined area. Which rights a given direction withdraws is written in the council's notice, so a line on a map cannot tell you what you may change. Because a direction covers a defined area, the boundary line matters as well as the notice.
Is my address inside the mapped area?
Contact the planning officers at Tandridge District Council with your full address and two questions: does the address fall inside the mapped area, and which rights does the direction remove? Ask both before ordering any visible change, such as a different tile colour, a new roof window, a bigger chimney or a changed ridge. Keep the reply and send us a copy, and the written price will reflect it. Mending a roof so it looks exactly as before is one question, and changing its appearance is another, and the survey helps you tell which one you are asking.
A map entry tells you where a direction applies, and only the notice tells you what it removes.
