What we aim for
This statement applies to the Crown Crawley Roofing website. We build and check the pages against version 2.1 of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, with the aim of meeting level AA. Those guidelines cover things such as text that can be read against its background, pages that make sense in a logical order and forms that tell you what they are asking for.
An accessible site matters more than usual for a roofing business, because people often arrive in a hurry on a phone with water coming through a ceiling. A page that is hard to read in that moment is a page that fails the person who needs it.
What you should be able to do
You should be able to use the whole site with a keyboard alone, moving through the menu, the links and the enquiry form with the Tab key and seeing clearly where you are. Headings follow a sensible order, so a screen reader can jump from section to section. Links say where they lead, rather than just reading "click here".
Text can be enlarged in your browser, and the layout reflows to fit narrow screens instead of forcing you to scroll sideways. The form fields have visible labels, and if something is missed the message names the field. Phone and WhatsApp details sit on every page, so you can reach us without using the form at all.
Images, motion and the video
Photos on the site carry a short text description where they add meaning to the page, and decorative pictures are marked so that a screen reader skips them. Where the pages use movement, such as sections that slide into view as you scroll, the site respects the reduced motion setting on your device and shows the content without the animation.
Video is loaded only when you choose to play it. If a video does not work for you, the same information is written on the page it sits on.
Known limits
We test the pages regularly but no site is perfect, and some parts depend on tools we do not control. The enquiry form and any embedded third-party content, such as a map or a video player, may behave differently from the rest of the site with some assistive technology. Older documents we send you after a survey, such as a quote, are issued in a standard format and we can supply them in another form if you ask.
If you find something that does not work, that is the information we need, and we will treat it as a fault to be fixed.
Tell us about a barrier
If you cannot use part of the site, or you need information in another format, contact us using the phone number, WhatsApp or enquiry form shown on every page. Tell us the page address, what you were trying to do and what got in the way. If you use assistive technology, mention which, because it helps us to reproduce the problem.
We will read your message, look into it and reply in writing with what we found and what we plan to change. If you would rather arrange a roof survey by phone because the site is not working for you, say so and we will take the details that way.
If you are not happy with our reply
If you raise an accessibility problem and feel it has not been dealt with, you can use our complaints procedure, which explains how we handle a complaint and where to go if you remain unhappy. Public sector bodies are held to specific accessibility regulations, which do not apply to a private roofing business, but the Equality Act 2010 sets duties on service providers generally, and you can seek advice from the Equality Advisory and Support Service.
Using this site with assistive technology
Can I send photos of my roof if I use a screen reader?
Yes. The enquiry form accepts a written description on its own, and you can send photos by WhatsApp instead. Describe where the damage is and when you noticed it, and we will book the survey in.
Is there a way to enquire without using the form?
Yes. The phone number and WhatsApp link appear on every page, so you can ring or message us directly. Whichever you pick, we take the same details and the survey that follows is the same.
